"The Teaching Trunk"

Good morning everyone,

Today, Sunday, October 11, 2009, Atascocita - Kingwood Genealogical Society is holding a joint meeting with the Seth Hurin Bates chapter of the "Daughters of the Republic of Texas", and the Sarah Ward chapter of the "Children of the Republic of Texas." The presentation will be "The Teaching Trunk." The trunk was put together by Dr. Bruce Winders, Curator of the Alamo, He created the teaching trunks for the ten districts of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas to use in classroom instruction.


The trunks contains clothing, foodstuffs, eating utensils, fire making kits, toys and games, and hunting equipment. The trunk has been used in classrooms and also at the Jesse Jones Park Pioneer Day celebration. Old and young are amazed at the life in the 1830s and before.


I will try and post some photos of the trunk if I get some good photos. This is where I need you Christina!
